What Does it Mean To Have a 5 Star Health Rating?

By Andy Paterson

What it Means To Have a 5 Star Health Rating. In short, it means it doesn’t get any better (healthier) than that when talking about confectionery. These are literally among the healthiest lollies you can buy anywhere. We think that’s amazing! Why is this important?

Well, Australia has one of the highest rates of obesity in the world today. Almost two thirds of adults and one in every four children are classified as overweight or obese. As a result, the Health Star Rating has been designed to provide shoppers with a quick and easy comparison of similar packaged foods. The more stars, the healthier the choice.

When looking for the stars though, you should bear in mind that they are meant to provide a comparison within similar product categories only. So our lollies have a 5 Star Health Rating which makes them far healthier than most other confectionery and especially the sugar-filled kind. An article in The Conversation reported the findings of a study into 20,000 products carried in Australian supermarkets, showing that one of the largest confectionery manufacturers scored an average 1.9 Health Stars across their range. So, our Healy Lollies 5 Star Health Rating compares very well to that range and most others like it. To be clear, we are not comparing our Healthy Lollies to the goodness and nutrients provided by fruit and vegetables!!

Products are given a low rating if they are considered high in total energy, includes saturated fat, salt or sugar. Our current range, from Dr. Johns Healthy Sweets has none of these things (with the exception of our yummy but slightly naughty soft toffees).

A reminder then, why the Dr John’s Healthy Sweets range is so good:

Dr. John’s premium lollies contain natural, sugar-free sweeteners that are low calorie, so they’re perfect for those seeking to reduce sugar intake.

Dr. John’s lollies are made with all-natural flavours, colours, and preservatives. All the colours and flavours used in their lollies are derived from fruits, vegetables, and other plant sources.

Their lollies are a great way to boost your daily fibre intake while enjoying a sweet treat. With the exception of the soft toffees, our lollies contain anywhere from 2 to 10 grams of dietary fibre.

The lollipops and hard lollies provide more than half the daily requirement value of Vitamin C and our caramels contain a healthy dose of Vitamin D.

They are the #1 confectionery brand recommended by US Dentists ! The lollies are good for your teeth because they contain xylitol and erythritol, which have been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria that contribute to cavities.

The entire range does not contain sugar, are low in calories, and are safe for diabetics on the advice of a physician.

Our sugar-free hard lollies contain prebiotic fibre that promotes digestive health. Our lollipops contain 8 grams of dietary fibre.

Our sugar-free lollies temporarily relieve dry mouth. Dr. John’s Healthy Sweets contain xylitol and erythritol which have both been shown to promote the production of saliva.

BTW the difference between the sweetness of a general sweet and our sugar-free sweets is negligible. But we'll let you be the judge of that.

Pure Delight in every single healthy lolly!
